Amr Samir Atef Had Us Questioning Everything With These Plot Twists
If there’s one thing writer Amr Samir Atef knows how to do, it’s leave viewers questioning everything they thought they knew. His latest story, Gareema Fe El Zamalek, part of El Qessa El Kamla, had audiences talking after its shocking ending proved that his talent for unexpected twists hasn’t faded over the years. So, we’re looking back at some of the biggest plot twists he’s given us on screen.
Rakam Maghol (2012)
Just when viewers thought they had figured out who was behind Ali’s misery, Rakam Maghol delivered a twist that hit close to home. The mysterious anonymous caller who turned Ali’s life upside down turned out to be none other than his own brother, Ibrahim. But that wasn’t all. He had help from Yassin Mansour (Mahmoud El Gendy), Ali’s father-in-law, who masterminded parts of the scheme alongside Sameh El Sairafi, one of Ali’s clients.
El Sayyad (2014)
Throughout El Sayyad, Seif regularly visits a female psychiatrist, opening up to her about his struggles and seeking advice. She seems like a constant presence in his life, making her eventual reveal all the more unsettling. In the final episodes, viewers discover that the psychiatrist was never real in the first place. She was simply a figment of Seif’s imagination, brought to life by his guilt and troubled mental state. Suddenly, all those conversations took on a completely different meaning.
Leabet Eblees (2015)
For most of Leabet Eblees, viewers are led to believe that Adham, a magician and illusionist, is locked in a bitter rivalry with his wealthy twin brother, Salim. The story seemingly follows Adham’s elaborate scheme to take his brother’s life, fortune, and television channel. But the real twist? The entire feud, including Salim’s apparent murder and the takeover of the business empire, was staged by the twins themselves from the very beginning. It was all part of a much bigger game, proving that nothing was quite as it seemed.
Kafr Delhab (2017)
Perhaps one of Amr Samir Atef’s most unforgettable reveals came in Kafr Delhab. The series initially introduces Dr. Saad as a mysterious figure whose actions can easily make viewers sympathize with him. However, as the story unfolds, his true identity is revealed: he is Dalhab, the devil himself, feeding off the blood and injustice of the village’s people. The reveal completely changes how viewers see the character, turning someone they may have rooted for into the very source of evil.
El Qessa El Kamla: Gareema Fe El Zamalek (2026)
The latest addition to Amr Samir Atef’s list of shocking endings had everyone talking. Across the three episodes of Gareema Fe El Zamalek, viewers follow the investigation into Greta’s murder, with Nadia (Saba Mubarak) appearing to be someone who loved her and could never possibly hurt her. That is, until the final reveal. After all the investigations, Nadia breaks down in front of the police and confesses to killing Greta in a fit of rage. A confession few saw coming, especially after the story spent so much time making us believe Nadia was incapable of such an act.
From imaginary characters and carefully staged rivalries to shocking betrayals and unexpected confessions, Amr Samir Atef has given audiences plenty of endings they won’t forget anytime soon. And if Gareema Fe El Zamalek is anything to go by, he’s clearly not done keeping us on our toes.
